If ever there was a rich market for the enterprising 3D printer owner, its the customized vehicle parts market. There are a lot of auto enthusiasts that love to customize their rides but they dont own a 3D printer but will pay handsomely for custom parts made to their specs that are one of a kind. This sort of work can keep a guy busy making such 3D printed parts. Ive done a great deal of this for many others but since I just bought a new truck, I get to do some of it for myself.
My new truck is a 2020 Dodge Ram and there are several 3D printed mods I want to make.
First up is the addition of a center console with storage and cup holders. I did not care for the cup holders and cab storage on the 2020 rams. You don't get any cup holders unless you fold down the center console and I don't care to have that thing folded down so I designed and 3D printed my own customized solution along with some Rino glass. Also, I designed and made larger than usual cup holders.
Next I added some bed lighting again using my 3D printers. If you have ever gutted a black bear by the side of the road in the rain and 10 O clock at night, while the black bear you killed a few hours earlier is in the bed of your truck with all you gear and you are all alone, you understand the need for good lighting both in the bed and via a magnetic base attached to the side of the truck so you dont have to hold a flashlight in your teeth while field dressing. This happened during one of my bowhunting road trips.
Next up was a MUCH needed mod because in the short time Ive owned the truck I accidentally locked myself out 3 times. The auto lock button happens to be right where my wrist can hit it when I pull the handle to open the door.
Do I designed my own parts to prevent accidentally triggering the lock. Then I fired up the 3D printer.
People that want custom 3D printed auto parts want them to match the color and finish of their ride. These parts will match well.
Then it was time to customize further with a 3D printed mod for a dash cam and a Custom printed iphone holder.
More mods to come.
