I took some time on Sunday to put out 8 trail cams. I still have a couple more to place but this was a good start. I checked out some new parts of the Northern lease and found some promising stand locations. I put up a couple licking branch sign posts to get the deer to stop for photos. The deer seemed to fair well over the winter. Lots os of sign in the area. The hay and corn on the farm look good and the old apple tree even has apples this year. I still have a couple ladder stands to place and Im still waiting on my new sight for my bow to replace my broken sight. 33 days to go.

Went to the Cabelas Door buster sale in Richfield on Sat. Morning with my Father in law. Bought 2 hub style ground blinds, a dozen Gold Tip carbon shafts, some Blazer vanes and some glue. Also got a few more Muzzy Phantom Broadheads, a block target, a new wrist strap for my release and other bowhunting odds and ends. Didn’t have to pay a dime as I was sitting a several hundred dollars worth of Cabelas gift cards. SWEET! Still have more Cabelas money left to spend.

Forgot about the 10 am start time but still was able to get an antlerless tag for Portage County.

Great opening weekend. Drove up to the lease Friday night looking forward to opening morning. Sat, I was in a tree bright and early with a camera on the camera arm. The goal this here is to self film a archery harvest. It was very drippy in the woods from the nights rains. I had a lone doe com into my set at 6:30 am but she did not pass in front of my camera. Even though she was at 17 yards, she got a pass because I could not get her on film and repositioning the camera was out of the question with her so close.
At 7:30 am another doe approached from behind me and like the first doe never came into the area my camera way aiming so she got a pass.
Sat. night was a bust. It was so calm and quiet you could hear a mosquito fart. No deer seen. Sun Morning was also a bust. Put up another stand site at miday on Sunday. Sunday night I moved to the other side of the lease and saw 6 turkey, a doe and fan and then a very wide 7 point. None were within range. I got of them on film but no shots. Ill be back at it again next weekend.

Weekend #2 was a lot of fun. I hunted Friday evening but didn’t see a deer. Still it was a nice site. The deer must be hitting the acorns and I need to move a stand or two. I scouted out some new stand sites on Sat and put up a climber in a new location on the edge of a swamp. I sat on a field edge on Sat evening in a newly brushed in pop up blind and only saw turkeys. Sunday morning was a wash out. I Finished cleaning up shooting lanes on the new stand location on Sunday. Sunday night only produced deer at too great a distance to identify.

Weekend 4 of the 2014 bow season was fun but cold and windy with snow flurries on Sat morning. I got pretty wet but saw some deer but passed on ant shots.
