August 1 is the opening of the wolf tag application period. If I pull a number out of the air at 50,000 applications and the Dept. issues 2,000 tags, it could take 25 years for a person to draw a wolf kill permit. If you don’t get in on the very first year to begin earning preference points, you may never draw a wolf tag.
If you do draw a wolf tag at some point and get back into the drawing with zero points, you may never draw another kill tag in your lifetime. I will be applying for myself and my boys just to get into the preference point cycle. Who else will get in on the first year application???

The agency began taking lottery applications on Wednesday. Department officials say they received 3,277 applications
“By noon Wednesday, just a few hours after the agency started taking applications, the DNR had already received 1,800 permit requests, according to Scott Loomans, a DNR spokesman.
"I guess we really didn't know what to expect," Loomans said. "But it sounds encouraging. We're hoping to get as many applications as we can."
Not bad. It seems I’m not the only one interested in applying.
